India’s Yamaha never ceases to amaze us. It has a history of launching icons like the Yamaha RD350, and the Yamaha RX100 and then a long dormant period. Then came the Yamaha FZ range and the Yamaha R15, which also proved to be icons. Since the launch of the R15 and FZ, the company has been constantly upgrading the bikes, but the company hasn’t had anything revolutionary to offer. However, now is the time to release such a product, which could be another game-changer. Enter the Yamaha Aerox 155.
What makes the Aerox 155 different is the scooter’s unique design. It has a central spine that houses the fuel tank.

A 12V socket is also obtained to allow you to battery your mobile phone. The storage box under the seat is quite large and can accommodate a full helmet.

The front apron also has a small cubbyhole for storing your mobile phone and for its battery, thanks to the battery socket provided there. On the downside, some of the plastic fixings (such as the fuel filler and cubicle cover) feel flimsy. Due to the central spine section, the legs have to be turned over to fit the scooter. The footrests are large and offer plenty of space. However, if you compare it to a traditional scooter, it will not disappoint you.

The Yamaha Aerox 155 is a fun scooter to ride. It offers good handling and mimics a motorbike.
Yamaha Aerox 155: ride and handling
Start the scooter and the motor slips less than a bit, unlike the scooters you use every day. Twist your wrist and the scooter doesn’t take off energetically. Throttle response is good and crisp, and the scooter leans forward with greater than throttle input. This makes sudden overtaking seem much easier. But what’s really interesting is when you’re really just cruising along and glancing at the speedo! Expect to see figures between 80 and 90 km/h, which is actually the Aerox’s cruising speed. The top speed is well up to 115 km/h, making it one of the fastest scooters in the country. Best of all, on the Aerox you will always feel a deep lack of power and performance.
The rear end design is modelled on that found on motorbikes. The twin shock setup reduces it. The tail light is an LED unit.
In terms of riding and handling, the Aerox is great. The suspension is set up softly, so the ride quality can be a bit stiff at low speeds. However, it is not as stiff as the Aprilias. High speed stability is epic and the scooter feels like it’s planted even at 100km/h and above. It’s the kind of scooter where people want to slow down on the speed bumps and just enjoy the jumps! Around the corners, the Aerox was also enthusiastic and hot. The conclusion then was that the Aerox was for enthusiasts who weren’t allowed to ride a scooter but wanted to miss out on the fun.
