Enlisted National Guard members and their families are now eligible for full-tuition scholarships from the University of Phoenix. The opportunity, offered in collaboration with the Enlisted Association of the National Guard of the United States (EANGUS) is called the 2022 Future Phoenix scholarship program. It can be used to cover the costs of a bachelor’s or master’s degree program at the University and further strengthens the University’s commitment to military-affiliated students.
“This scholarship honors the service of our enlisted National Guard and their families,” said Eric Ryan, Marine Corps veteran and senior director of Military Operations at University of Phoenix. “This scholarship recognizes their sacrifices and commitment and offers a pathway forward for enlisted individuals and family members seeking a higher education.”
Resources for Military-Affiliated Students at University of Phoenix
University of Phoenix has supported military servicemembers and their families since it was founded. The University’s online, flexible classes are an ideal fit for those serving in the military and subject to sudden travel and deployment. In fact, according to the 2020 Academic Annual Report, over 26,800 students, or 21 percent of the student population, have a military affiliation. The University also has more than 269,600 military affiliated graduates and hundreds of faculty members with military experience.
These students and alumni benefit from numerous resources the University has put in place specifically for military members and their families in order to ease the transition into civilian life and onto new career paths. These resources include reduced tuition rates for military-affiliated students as well as a resource fee waiver.
University of Phoenix staff also provides guidance to military students on utilizing their G.I. Bill benefits to pay for their degree program, and those who have served are eligible for college credits for their military experience. They can also apply to have their military experience assessed for credits via Prior Learning Assessments (PLAs) which provide college credit through professional experience including tactical skills and training programs undertaken by those in the Army, Navy, Air Force, National Guard and other branches of service.

Recently, University of Phoenix announced a new mentorship program to benefit military and veteran students offered in collaboration with American Corporate Partners. Through the program, military members, their spouses and transitioning veterans are given a one-year, customized corporate career counseling arrangement that includes being paired with a mentor from one of over 100 partner businesses or organizations. Students are given career guidance, connections and insights into the industry that can help get them started on their civilian career.
“Veteran students face a number of unique challenges after transitioning from military service,” says Ryan. “Their lives in the military came with a language, culture and sense of purpose and camaraderie. There is an efficiency and sense of professional competence that is expected of every servicemember, and that does not end with our time in uniform.”
