He published four volumes of poetry between 1908 and 1927. During this time, he also wrote a novel entitled The Tides of Manassas (1912), which was based on his experiences as a lieutenant colonel in World War I.
His other novels include The Lion’s Share (1918) and A Symphony for the Prints: A Novel Without Words (1922). His most popular work is Fairy Tales from Many Lands (1927), which has been adapted into films including Three Little Pigskins (1945) by Walt Disney Pictures; it has also been made into an animated series called “Fairy Tale Theater”.
